Tea and Coffee Towers Project
Tea & Coffee Towers project by Officina Alessi
presented at the Milan Furniture fair 2003
2003
Alessi’s ‘Tea and Coffee Towers’ project is a new landscape of objects designed by contemporary architects,
an exhibition that combines the expression of architecture with the language of design.
The ‘Tea and Coffee Towers’ has a precedent in the Alessi history: the ‘Tea and Coffee Piazza’, developed between 1979 and 1983, it led to a collaboration between Alessi and Aldo Rossi and Michael Graves.
Where is the contemporary idea of ‘domestic’ objects heading? It might be worthwhile studying and comparing the visions of these different designers/architecs.
Project of showcases by Hans Hollein.
Metaproject by Alessandro Mendini.

“Il caffè Alessi” – by Doriana and Massimilano Fuksas for Officina Alessi
2005
“Il caffè Alessi” stems from the Tea & Coffee Towers project Alessi organized in 2003.
In this project 22 international architects attempted industrial design for the very first time by designing a coffee and tea set. These items were constructed mainly from silver. The production costs were very high making it impossible for a majority of Alessi fans to acquire these sets. So, Alessi has introduced for spring/summer 2005 “Il Caffè Alessi” made of porcelain and designed by two of the architects that partecipated in the first project: Doriana and massimilinao Fuskas.
Together with the two large “E-Li-Li” vases, one stainless steel and the other ceramic and the “Mao-Mao” Rectangular tray, the mocha cups are the first results to be slated for indistrial production, stemming from the research done on the limited series of the “Tea & Coffe Towers” design project.
